Student Org Handbook Reserve a Room Dining Hours

The Student Union staff is happy to assist with helping plan and host events ranging from small intimate meetings to large banquets. Please contact the David B. Miller Yellow Jacket Student Union staff for more information regarding potential fees and any large-scale events at 605-642-6102. The Student Union has three different rate structures for customers utilizing the facilities. These rates only apply to normal business hours. There will be a fee of $100/hour for after-hours events in addition to any other applicable fees. Recognized Student Organizations and BHSU Departments may utilize the facility free of charge during normal business hours for university-related events. The following miscellaneous charges may be charged in addition to the above-noted fees for all groups.

$15 base fee for use of technology or student union supplies in any of the conference rooms.

$15 per every two hours for use of technology in the Jacket Legacy Room or Club Buzz.

$15 fee for use of any meeting space using the student union phone lines (i.e. conference calls).

Recreation Center

Located in the lower level of the Student Union, Club Buzz and the Game Room is a convenient place for students to take a break and enjoy a game of pool or ping-pong, lounge with friends, or take a lunch break and catch up on the latest news or sports. Comfortable couches and seating areas allow for a place to study, watch television, eat a snack, play a board game, or just take a few minutes after your busy day to unwind.

History of the Student Union

The student union building was originally built in 1963. It was expanded in 1968, 1997, and most recently in 2009. In 1998, the building was dedicated and renamed the David B. Miller Yellow Jacket Student Union. Dr. David B. Miller, a history professor from 1968-1997, received the 1997 Distinguished Faculty Award and was a four-time recipient of the Outstanding Faculty Award from the Student Senate.
